Performance appraisal method revised under the new NEP – 2020

The method of assessing student performance will be revised as part of the new National Education Policy – 2020 that the University of Mangalore will implement during the 2021-22 academic year.

As a result, the evaluation will be in the 60:40 ratio. This means that 60 points will be for the written exam and the rest 40 for the internal assessment. The current performance review ratio is 70:30.

The time to take the exam will be reduced to two hours instead of the current three.

The Vice Chancellor of PS Yadapadithaya University said The Hindu that the questions will be asked in a way that assesses students’ creative, critical and higher-order thinking and conceptual understanding of the topic. The marks for the internal evaluation were reduced from 30 to 40 for the continuous evaluation and the formative evaluation of the students.

Mr Yadapadithaya said the university has now prepared the programs for those joining undergraduate courses in 2021-2022 for two semesters (for one year). The regulations are also ready.

Delay in class

He said the new academic year at the university will start on November 8 instead of October 29.

This is because the assessment of the exam answer papers of the sixth semester of the undergraduate courses of the 2020-21 academic year will take place from October 29 to November 7. In addition, the exams scheduled for October 19 (Id-Milad) have been postponed to October. 29. College teachers who are not on assessment duty will have to go to the colleges as of November 6.

Mr Yadapadithaya said the university will hold a workshop for teachers, students and other stakeholders on NEP-2020 at the town hall here Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s about educating everyone. Principals from 207 affiliated colleges, NEP nodal agents in the colleges, five students from each college and teachers were invited to the meeting.

Later, the university will hold an interaction with representatives of five autonomous colleges of the University College to discuss issues related to the next level of implementation of NEP – 2020. Directors, heads of NEP nodes and a representative of the management will participate in the meeting.
